Detroit Auto Show 2008
Dreaming of what Detroit Could do, vs. what they actually do.
Of course, anything is possible, If you have enough money.
Detroit has forever been showing auto show crowds their "cars of the future", and as much as I can remember, never having them come to life. I don't know what thinking process keeps this idea coming back year after year, but it is very dissapointing to see some of these beautiful concept cars that never make it out to the showroom. In high school, I used to look forward to seeing them in every issue of Popular Mechanics, only to be shocked at how much of the design was lost by the time the real car made it out to the public.
At the 2008 Detroit Auto show, Chrysler Corporation announced three new "Plug-in concept cars".
Anyway, here are some photos of the Car Show. Click for larger image.
The Blue car would outsell the Prius, if sold for the same amount, but ... it is a dream.
Anyone want to bet that the one powerered by Hyrdrogen Fuel Cells never makes it? How can they promote Hydrogen as a fuel source? Because they still believe that in order to make money, they have to sell you the fuel as well as the car. Wake up Detroit. IBM stopped selling typewriters, and reinvented itself in the computer business.
GM, Ford, and Chrysler will have to stop selling cars that are powered by energy that is sold at the "gas station". Maybe Texaco, Exxon, Chevron, and the other oil companies can learn to produce solar panels like British Petroleum.
The Renegade Gets 110 MPG, using a 3 cylinder Diesel.
Dream on. More from the Detroit Auto Show.
