Note: This compares the fuel costs at a range of gas prices. In 2005, gas was less than $2.00 per gallon. in 2008, it is more than $4.00. We have heard experts say that the price of gas will double every three years from now on.
If I put a price projection OVER $8.00, people would accuse me of being an alarmist.

My conclusion: If I convert a truck that gets 20 mpg into a truck that gets 80 mpg, then I will be rewarded more. If I replace my 20 mpg Car with a Hybrid, I don't get quite the same return on my money, and I am still in a small car.

It only requires gasoline prices to average $6.00 per gallon for the next five years, and the purchase and conversion of a truck to a Plug-in Series Hybrid will pay for itself in just the fuel costs. Add in the maintenance, cost of oil changes, etc, and you save more. I urge you to make your own spreadsheet with your annual mileage divided by your miles per gallon, and see what you will be spending when gasoline doubles again.
